A private estate garden in Cambridgeshire
Private Estate Garden Design & Management · Cambridgeshire

Your estate deserves someone who thinks in decades, not days.

Most designers hand over drawings. Most contractors maintain without vision. MJWGardenDesigns does both. Design-led thinking combined with deep long-term plant knowledge, working exclusively with luxury estates and high-end private gardens.

The Practice

Not just design.Long-term care.

MJWGardenDesigns works exclusively with luxury estates and high-end private gardens. Not as a contractor who turns up and leaves. As the person who understands your land, learns its history, and is still there in ten years making it better. Design-led from the start. Rooted in long-term plant knowledge. Built around your property, not a standard package.

About Michael

Eighteen years. One focus.

"A garden is only as good as its understanding. I bring the perspective of someone who has planted, pruned, and planned within the same spaces. That continuity changes everything."

Michael has spent his career at the intersection of horticultural craft and creative design. Trained to RHS Level 3, he spent formative years as Head Gardener at the University of Cambridge. A role that sharpened both his technical rigour and his ability to manage complex, high-profile grounds.

Today Michael holds a retained position on a Grade II* listed Regency estate in Cambridgeshire, where he oversees the management and development of historically significant gardens. His private client work runs alongside. Small in number, long in commitment.

"What I love most about working in a private estate garden is that it's a return to an analogue way of life. You're surrounded by plants, history, and you're physical in the space. It takes me back to being a kid in the nineties. In a world that's increasingly digital, these gardens are a chance to unplug, step outside, and reconnect with something real."
